A quick thought from Jagger's birthday party...

Today's Jagger's second birthday!

So we sat on the floor together with a brand new set of Legos. The box said the toy was for ages three and up. I decided if I stayed present and watched him closely, he'd be safe.

I ripped the plastic bag open and watched a hundred tiny parts spill onto the carpet. I could feel the scratchy rug digging into my bare knees and the sharp, rigid edges of the plastic blocks under my hands.

Jagger quickly grabbed a few red pieces and built a strange little robot.

"Elmo!" he shouted with a giant grin.

To be honest, the creation looked nothing like Elmo, but I told him it was perfect.

Right then, my phone let out a sharp ping.

It's funny how that tiny sound can break your focus faster than a screaming toddler. It's a pocket-sized teleportation device, begging to pull me out of the real world and into a digital blur of "good news" or "bad news."

I felt a sudden urge to reach for it...

But then I looked at my son's face. If I grab that phone, I instantly pay the Ghost Parent Tax. I become physically present at the Lego pile but completely absent in spirit.

Jagger's only two.

He doesn't do breathing exercises, he doesn't read self-help books, and he definitely doesn't care about his fitness macros. Yet, he's the absolute expert in the room at being completely present.

I chose to stay exactly where I was. I took a deep breath and focused on the plastic blocks rather than the digital screen.

The reason I'm sharing this with you is because time only feels fast when we aren't truly there. If I'd checked that phone, Jagger's entire birthday morning would have disappeared into a blur of emails. Time only speeds up when we aren't truly there to anchor it down.

Next time you feel yourself getting pulled away from a moment that matters, try this:

Pause, take a deep breath in, and a slow breath out.

Notice one thing you can hear, one thing you can see, and one thing you can feel. This simple check-in can help bring you back to the present, so you don't miss what's right in front of you.

As a Master Trainer, I hear people say they want to lose ten pounds or get more energy.

But the real benefit of fitness is entirely different: it buys you time.

A strong body anchors you to the present. Your health's a tool that enhances the quality of every experience you have. Proper breathing and a resilient body allow you to slow down time for the things that matter most.

When your lower back doesn't scream at you from sitting on the floor, you aren't just pain-free. You're reclaiming the Life Game. Stop letting failing hardware cost you the moments that matter most.

Happy Birthday, Jagger!

Thank you for being my ultimate instructor.
