You want scary? How about this ...

It was the Fall of 2016, I stood in the lobby of my apartment in Irvine, California. As my coffee was brewing, Kristin looked at me and my TBP outfit and guessed correctly.

“I should probably hire a trainer.” She smirked, pocking her tummy.

People say this a lot to me. Most times, they’re not serious, so I took a wif of my freshly brewed coffee and smiled.

Kristen then casually mentioned that her house burned down in the recent round of fires. I was shocked, not by the fire, but by her attitude.

She wasn’t distraught.

She wasn’t angry.

If my home burned down, I could only imagine the horror, the sadness, and the loss of normalcy. Your career, your family, your life upended in one life-altering evening.

Normal wouldn’t be normal anymore.

I didn’t have words, so I just listened.

Kris told me her exercise and nutrition plan fell apart. Her girls moved off to college. And her career wasn’t as thrilling as it once was. She had enough, and it was time to take action.

Without hesitation, I jumped on the opportunity to help.

Her life was in complete disarray. The insurance company paid to have Kris, her husband, and two daughters move into Astoria, our apartment complex. She let me know it would only be temporary as her house was rebuilt. Her family lived 30 minutes away, and she already had a gym routine back home.

Luckily for me, the house took longer to rebuild than anticipated. In the meantime, she dropped almost 30 pounds. Those crucial pounds lost brought a surge of newfound confidence. The confidence gave her the clarity to pursue her life’s purpose.

Kris is an accomplished attorney. A strong, independent female. But she wanted more out of life.

She wanted to serve more. She wanted to give more. She wanted to help more.

It’s incredible what can happen when you improve just one aspect of your life—success breeds success.

Fast forward 3 years later, and Kris holds a new seat on the Orange Unified School Board, creating more impact than ever.

I’m forever grateful for Kris. She exemplified resilience by turning one of the worst events that anyone can experience into one of the best opportunities of her life. From the ashes of that tragic episode, she rebuilt not just her home, but her life.

Kristin taught me that even the best, most talented, driven people need help.

You might be good on your own, but you can be great with the right support.
